10 women show us how it’s done on Instagram
Here’s a real advantage to being a CoolAger. We just don’t let things get to us the way we used to, especially when it comes to our bodies. We’ve grown to love our curves and contours and reveal ourselves with more confidence than we could have imagined at 16, or 25, or 35. These celebrities, photographers, writers, yogis and women just happy in their own skin are a few of the many women who show their bodies some love, and inspire us in the process.
She’s smart, gorgeous and embraces her curves. We love the way Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi downplays weight gain, allowing herself to go up several dress sizes in one season on her hit show. When it comes to relationships, she’s just as awesome. Just read her recent memoir Love, Loss, and What We Ate.
Heidi Klum clearly didn’t believe that models are supposed to have a shelf life. Since her early catwalk days, she’s added titles like “fashion designer,” “television producer,” “actress” and “mother of four” to her credits. We love following her family and love life. And yes, we love seeing her body-proud moments, too. It’s Heidi’s world, we just live in it.
Jessika Le Corre
Self-love via connecting with nature is what Jessika Le Corre’s FeatherEagleSky teaches us on Instagram. This curious and unique modern day earth mother and Cherokee Native American posts stunning images of her naked body in natural settings, often after running barefoot through the mountains. She’s in the process of writing a book about her journey through life.
We’ve been a part of Oprah’s ups and downs with her body, right there with her on her journey for years. We applaud her candor about healthy eating, body image issues and her love of bread (!) especially as she lost 26 pounds on Weight Watchers after buying 10% of the company—while eating bread every single day.
Melissa McCarthy has helped a lot of women change their perceptions of their bodies. Sure, she’s a great actress, getting us all to laugh (at ourselves mostly), but her comfort in her body at any size inspires us to feel the same. Plus, when she couldn’t find cool clothes to fit her gorgeous curves, she started her own body-confident clothing line targeted at fuller-figured woman. How cool is that?
American photographer Tierney Gearon uses her lens to expose the unique beauty in every person, place and situation. From her controversial I Am a Camera exhibition featuring a few nude photos of her children, to her more recent The Mother Project, showcasing images of her mentally ill mother, this California-based artist and mother fascinates us. When it comes time to turn the camera around, the result is just as real, raw and breathtaking.
Jennifer Lopez is a star who continues to shine brighter every year. She’s committed to health and fitness, which is evidenced by her strong and powerful body. The superstar also has an unapologetic attitude when it comes to her personal life, too.
Tamron Hall is gorgeous, sassy and unstoppable as a NBC national correspondent. She is totally transparent about her personal life, too, using her own experiences to open the eyes of the world. We also admire her commitment to fitness, whether it’s in the form of cycling, hiking, swimming or moving boulders!
Dana Trixie Flynn
Party girl-turned-yogi Dana Trixie Flynn’s vibrant lifestyle makes us smile. Strong, spiritual and beyond flexible, the founder of New York’s Laughing Lotus Yoga has incorporated her passion for dance into her practice, livening up her classes with a disco ball, huge graffiti wall and a glitter bar. Women dancing to their own beat and loving their bodies as well as their minds? These are souls we want to be around.
Formally known as “Dylan McDermott’s wife,” this Los Angeles based holistic activist has bloomed into the most beautiful version of herself, Shiva Rose. Her blog, The Local Rose, is a must-read for the bohemian sect, while her Instagram account is filled with gorgeous images of her wondrously wholesome life – looking comfortable in her skin in each one.
